
Ingredients:
- 1 lb breakfast sausage (ex. Jimmy Dean)
- 1/2 chopped sweet onion
- 1/3 cup flour
- 3 1/2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp dried sage or thyme
- Biscuits for serving
Instructions:
- Add sausage to a large skillet and break apart, add chopped onion, cook until sausage is browned and onion is soft (8-10 minutes)
- Reduce heat to medium-low. Sprinkle flour over sausage and stir to coat. Let cook for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally, until flour is lightly toasted.
- While stirring, pour in milk. Increase heat to medium high. Once the mixture boils and thickens, reduce heat to medium-low. Add salt, pepper, and sage or thyme. Let simmer for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve over warm biscuits.
